The Korean American Behavioral Health Association (KABHA) is a non-profit organization composed of Korean American professionals committed to promoting improved treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of mental illness and to advocate and support people with mental illness and their families.

KABHA is composed of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychologists and social workers who are working in the mental health field. Based on each of professional skills and knowledge we take on interdisciplinary approach to improving the mental health of Korean Americans.

KABHA have objectives

First, KABHA plans to provide education and awareness campaign of mental illness to the community with focus on early intervention. KABHA members will visit religious organizations and community agencies to provide awareness education through seminars, workshops and run support groups.

Second, KABHA will establish a referral system that will allow prompt and appropriate intervention for Korean Americans in need of mental health services. Subsequently, individuals will be referred to mental health service providers depending on level and area of their problem. As a part of this effort, KABHA will set up a web-site that will provide information regarding mental health service providers, social service and professional articles.

Third, KABHA will take a role in encouraging young Korean American professionals to be involved in community activities and be available resources for the community. In order to achieve this goal, we will provide mentoring, seminars, supervision and networking through monthly meeting and various events.

Fourth, KABHA will provide mental health service provider directory for the public to utilize available resources in order to help person suffering from mental illness. This directory will help Korean Americans utilize service easily, who have difficulty in access to mental health service system due to language barriers and lack of knowledge.
